Open CMD Prompt within a Click

If you are the one who use command prompt window a lot, then you might have always wondered about having command prompt in the right click context menu. Well you can include command prompt in the right click context menu by simply following the steps described below.

If you deal with command prompt window in an attempt to run some Disk Operating System or DOS/shell commands, then this tutorial will be helpful to you. You can easily open command prompt with a click on the screen.

Add Command Prompt in right-click Context menu

You can now open command prompt from right click on the mouse or track-pad on a folder in Windows.
Once you have inserted Command Prompt Window in the right context menu, this will open the cmd prompt and its current directory will be the path to the folder you’ve selected.

The process involves editing the Windows registry make sure to set a restore point on your system. Any small change in Windows registry can cause serious issue on your system.

Follow the steps below to insert command prompt in right click menu

  • Go to Start orb and open the Run dialog box or press Windows + R
  • Type regedit and hit Enter
  • Now, you can see Windows registry windows on the screen. Here navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\Folder\shell
  • Next, right-click on shell and choose New > Key

  • Make sure the key that is to be created is under shell. Modify the name of this key to Command Prompt
  • Now, Right-click on this newly created key Command Prompt and choose New then choose Key
  • Next, modify the name of this key to command

  • To right pane of the window, double-click on the Default text and an edit box pop ups
  • Now, set the value data field to cmd.exe “%1″
  • Click OK and close the registry.

Restart your system to apply the changes. When the systems boots right click on the screen and you can now see the command prompt option in the context menu.

Upon following the steps described above you can easily add command prompt to your right click context menu and open the command prompt with a click.
