Windows 8 : Windows Media Center Installation

The Windows 8 RTM users are unable to install Windows Media Center on their system. If you are the one having the RTM Windows 8, then you might have encountered the prompt that the product key you are using is not working upon trying to installing the Windows media center or the key won’t work or try a different key. Follow the tutorial how you can install Windows Media Center on Windows 8.

The key used to install Windows Media Center on Windows 8 can’t be valid for use in RTM. However, Microsoft is giving away Windows Media Center for free until January 31st, 2013. To avail this, go to Microsoft’s and fill in your email address.

You can only avail the Windows Media Center Pack only when you have Windows 8 Pro installed. If you don’t have Windows 8 Pro, then you need to first purchase the Pro pack upgrade. Once you are done with this you can install Media Center for free until January, after that it will be paying a sum of $10 to get windows media center.

You will receive a mail after about 12 or so hours containing the new product key for activating Windows Media Center Pack. After this you can add the feature. Follow the steps given below.

  • Go to Control Panel and click on Add features to Windows 8
  • Now select I already have a product key option
  • This time the product key would work and you can see the Ready to add new features dialog box
  • Once done with this, Windows Media Center will be installed automatically
  • Restart your computer to effect the change.

Now, you can have the Windows media center in the release to manufacture Windows 8. Make sure that you have the pro pack installed as Microsoft has bound the users to install the Pro pack in order to add Windows Media Center. The cost for Windows 8 Upgrade is $39.99 and that of upgrade from Windows 8 to Windows 8 Pro is $69.99.
