Windows 8 System File Checker Unable to Fix Errors says CBS.log

Windows 8 fails to repair the corrupt file after running the SFC command. Users often come up with issues with SFC unable to fix the corrupted files in Windows 8. Users might be surprised to read the CBS log that say System File Checker failed to fix the corrupted system file. It might put you in vain but here are some troubleshooting steps to fix this issue on Windows 8.

At times most of the Windows problem can be resolved by running System File checker. To run SFC Scan, open Command prompt with Admin privileges. To do so, Press Win + X this will bring Power user menu and click on Command Prompt (Admin). In the elevated command prompt, type in sfc/scannow and hit enter.

After running the SFC scans most of the times many issues are resolved but under circumstances the fix doesn’t work. So try the fixes described below to fix the issue.

Open the elevated Administrator command prompt by following the steps as aforementioned and type in Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth and hit Enter. This will take few minutes to complete the process.

Once the process ends try running the sfc /scannow command once again. This will hopefully fix the issues sustaining or sfc will be able to the fix the corrupted system files again.

If this fix doesn’t work try running the DISM Command twice and thrice. After completing the DISM process, Reboot the system. Upon reboot again try running the SFC scan.

  • Run Updated Anti-virus scan on your system or run Windows Defender.
