Windows 8 signing off when PC sleeps – How to fix it?

This issue is probably due to the enabled feature – screen saver password protection. So, here is how you can enable or disable password on screen saver screen.

Using Local Group Policy Editor

Before making any changes make sure to set a restore point so that you can retrieve back if any thing goes wrong.

  • Press Win + R to open Run dialog and type in gpedit.msc and hit enter.
  • This will open the Local Group Policy Editor. Make sure you are operating the system with Admin privelege
  • In Local Group Policy Editor, navigate to User Configuration > Administrative Templates > Control Panel > Personalization
  • Now, double click on Password Protect the Screen Saver.
  • This will open its properties window. Here for Default Screen Saver Password Protection select Not Configured and hit OK.
  • In order to enable Screen Saver Password Protection,  select the radio button beside Enabled,and hit OK.
  • And to Disable Screen Saver Password Protection, simply select Disabled, and hit OK.

Upon selecting your option you can now close the Local group Policy Editor, and to apply the changes either refresh the local Group Policy Editor or restart your computer.

Disabling the Screen Saver Password Protection, the system no longer turns off on entering the sleep mode. Hope this helps you to fix your issues on Windows 8.
