Windows 8 – Create Shortcut for Run Dialog

Run serves many purposes, It helps you open important location in the system integrity. Run can be accessed or opened with Windows + R. Today we will be discussing about how you can open or launch RUN command box directly within a click. Steps to create a “Run” Shortcut in Windows 8 manually

  • In the Windows 8 desktop, right click on a empty area of the desktop, and click on New > Shortcut
  • In the create [shortcut window, copy and paste the command given below into the location area and click on the Next button %windir%\explorer.exe shell:::{2559a1f3-21d7-11d4-bdaf-00c04f60b9f0}

  • Now, assign name as Run and click on the Finish button

  • Next, right click on the newly created Run shortcut, and click on Properties

  • Go to the Shortcut tab under properties window and hit the Change Icon button
  • In change icon window, under the line Look for icons in this file, copy and paste the location below and hit Enter

  • Select the icon highlighted in blue as shown in the screenshot above and click on OK
    You can use any icon of your choice.
  • Finally, click on OK.

You can see that a new shortcut named RUN has been created on your desktop. This serves the same purpose only with the difference that it opens directly by clicking on the shortcut.

You can also Pin the shortcut to Taskbar on desktop or if you like you can Pin to Start screen or add to Quick Launch or even assign a keyboard shortcut to it, or move this shortcut to anywhere you like to access it easily.

Upon following the tutorial described here you can now open RUN command box directly in desktop by simply hitting the RUN shortcut.
