Unknown Tricks of Command Prompt in Windows 8

Command prompt is an interpreter application in Windows, it more or less looks like MS DOS. It runs and executes commands entered in it. There are few interesting commands that can be used in Command prompt.   • Sending a Command output to clipboard

You can use the command ipconfig | clip to copy and paste output in clipboard

  • You can open Command prompt from a Folder

For instance, you want to write some command lines to open a folder. To do so open the folder and start pressing the Shift key and right click in an empty space in the folder. By this you can get an option in the menu context known as Open Command Window here, simply click it to open command prompt or say you are redirected to the folder command prompt.

  • You can run multiple commands under single command window at the same time by writing the commands separated by double ampersands. For eg: ipconfig && netstat

  • To get the command history or say view past commands, type the command doskey /history and hit Enter.

  • You can drag and drop files to change the current path using command prompt. Press Windows+X and select only Command Prompt. This will open the location where the files or folders or interest are located. Next, open the command prompt and drag the file, and drop it inside the command prompt dialog.
