Allow Users to Run only Specific Programs

  • Press Windows key + R to open the Run dialog box
  • Next, type in gpedit.msc and hit Enter. This will open local group policy editor
  • In the policy window, navigate to User Configuration\Administrative Templates\System

  • To the right-pane of the system option, find the option Run only Specified Window Application and double-click on it
  • A new window pops out, there you can see 3 radio buttons options. Click on the Enabled radio button and next on Show Button

  • Now, create a list of applications that can be accessed by the remote users.

Upon completion of all the steps, when any other user on your system tries to open programs that is not listed or is out of that list, he comes across a prompt saying access denied. Thus the user is restricted from using the program and your data privacy is maintained.
