Modifying Touchpad Gestures In Windows 8

Microsoft’s Windows 8 not only provides optimized touch-first experience, but also includes touchpad gestures. The Windows 8 provides full support to the computer or notebook mouse and keyboard. For instance, with a swipe-in from the right edge of the screen you can see the Charms bar, while swipe-in from the top edge you can see the app commands. Follow the steps given below to disable swiping from the top, swiping from the left, and swiping from the right gestures in Windows 8 notebooks and laptops using Synaptics touchpad.

To Enable the Touchpad gestures, follow the steps given below.

  • Open a note pad and copy the registry code given below and save it as TouchEnable.reg file. Save the file with .reg extension.

  • After saving, close the file
  • Now, Double-click on the file, click Yes upon asking for confirmation, and then click Ok.
  • Restart your laptop.

Upon Restarting your computer, you will be enabled to use the touchpad gestures on your synaptics touchpad.

To Disable touchpad gestures, follow the steps given below.

  • Double-click on Touch.reg file, click Yes for the confirmation prompt, and then click Ok
  • Reboot your PC. Now, you can see that the gestures are disabled.

Make sure to create a manual system restore point before starting the actual procedure as you can restore your system, in case there is any deletion in the Registry, you can bring back the system to the earlier version and run your system efficiently and properly.
