How to Enable “Show Taskbar on All Displays in Windows 8″?

Windows 8 comes with many added features as I have already been discussing about them in the recent tutorials. Windows allows user to display the screen in multiple monitors. Here is the tutorial how you can set multiple taskbars or say display multiple taskbars in all displays of Windows 8.

show taskbars all displays windows 8

There are two procedures to enable or show taskbars in all displays, i.e. using .reg file or using local policy group.

Method 1

The method given below is a registry tweak i.e. editing Windows registry, so make sure to set restore point.

At first, create a .reg file which will make changes in the Windows registry

  • Open notepad, copy and paste the following entries to it

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

  • Next, save the note file to the desktop with .reg extension and naming it to Enable taskbar in all displays
  • Now, double click on it to run the .reg file
  • When you are get a prompt by UAC, click Yes and then hit OK to continue

To disable taskbars in all displays , use the following entries

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

Once your task is achieved you can delete the.reg file.

Method 2

Enable/ Disable Taskbar on all Windows 8 Displays using Group Policy

  • Open Run dialog by holding down Windows key + R
  • In the box, type in gpedit.msc and hit enter
  • You can see the Local Group Policy Editor window on screen, here navigate to User Configuration > Administrative Templates > Start Menu and Taskbar
  • To the right of Start Menu and Taskbar, you can see Do not allow taskbars on more than one display and double click on it

Do not allow taskbars on more than one display

  • A new window pops out, here to Enable Show Taskbar on All Displays, select (dot) Disabled or Not Configured radio button and hit OK OR select Enabled to Disable Show Taskbar on All Displays, and hit OK

enable show taskbar all display

  • Finally, restart Windows 8 to apply the changes.

This local group policy editing tweak is valid with only Windows 8 Pro and Windows 8 Enterprise editions.

One must log in to the system with Administrative privileges or logged in as an administrator.
If you are the one looking for how to enable or disable Taskbar on multiple displays in Windows 8, follow any of the methods described above.
