How to Disable Live Tile Notification for all Windows 8 Metro Apps

With many new features added to Windows 8 it has been able to grab a lot of user’s attention. The new users interface i.e. the metro start screen which is a replacement for traditional start menu has been fascinating users of Smartphone and desktop. Another interesting feature is the Live tile on Metro screen that shows all the latest update of any App without actually opening the App. For example, if you have a weather App set as your live tile, then you can see the weather updates on the start screen itself. But these live tiles need to be connected to the Internet to show latest updates or stay updated, which consumes bandwidth and increases Internet cost. So, here is the tutorial how you can disable the live tiles in Windows 8.

Well the most preferable and easy way to disable Live Tiles is by simply right-clicking on the live tile that is to be disabled and click on “Turn live tile off” from the menu bar at the bottom. But, using this process you can disable only single App. To disable number of tiles you need to disable one by one but this will be a time consuming process and quite irritating.

Here is the procedure how you can disable live tile notifications for all apps all at once.

  • Press Windows key +R to open the Run dialog and type gpedit.msc within it and hit Enter
  • Now, you have the Local Group Policy Editor on screen
  • Next, navigate to the following location User Configuration\Administrative Templates\Start Menu and Task Bar\Notifications
  • Go to the immediate right pane and double click on Turn off tile notification option

  • This will open a new window and there check the “Enabled” button

  • Lastly, Click Apply and close the policy window.

Once you have completed all the steps, you can notice that you no longer see any live tile notification for all Windows Modern UI apps or the live tile notification are being disabled. To undo the change or re-enable live tiles, simply set Turn off tile notification policy to disabled or to Not configured.
