Fix – Correct Date and Time cannot be set on Windows 8

Windows 8 shows a default time even after setting it to the real time to numerous times. Every time you change the time it automatically gets back to the early stage. Generally, the date and time are controlled by the CMOS battery. Here is the tutorial how you can fix this issue on Windows 8.

Windows 8 system shows the wrong time despite setting it to the original time. The system time and date are not rightly displayed. Here are some possible ways to fix this issue.

  • The CMOS battery might be the culprit. So, replace the system CMOS battery with anew one of same make and model. Start up the system and see if the right time is displayed. If not proceed to the next step.
  • Next, restart your system and press F2 once the logo appears to go to BIOS settings and resetting it to system defaults.
  • Or else you can clean system CMOS as per the manufacturer’s instructions.
  • You can also pull out the CMOS Battery and put it aside for few hours and reseat it and see if this helps.
  • If all this steps fails to set the right time then, go for a sfc/scannow. Press Win + X and select Command Prompt (Admin) and type in sfc/ scannow and hit enter. This will start scanning the system for any corrupted files and fix them accordingly.
  • If upon trying to set the correct date and time, the system prompts you for Admin password then provide it. If you are not the Admin then the Admin might have forbidden you from changing the system time.
