Access Maps App within clicks by creating Shortcut in Windows 8

Steps to Create Maps App Shortcut in Windows 8 manually

  • Firstly go to desktop, right click on an empty area and click on New > Shortcut from the context menu
  • In the create shortcut window, copy and paste the command below into the type location field %windir%\System32\cmd.exe /c start “” “bingmaps:” && exit and click on the Next button

  • In the next window that opens, type name as Maps for the name, and click on the Finish button

  • Now you can see the shortcut for Maps on the desktop, right click on the newly created Maps shortcut, and click on Properties
  • In properties window, click on the Shortcut tab

  • Here click on the Change Icon button to assign an icon for it. You can also download custom Maps icon for the shortcut. Hit the Browse button and locate the icon you want to choose
  • Finally, click OK and close all the windows.

That’s all. Maps App shortcut is now ready to use. Further, you can Pin the shortcut to Taskbar, or Pin to Start screen or add to Quick Launch or assign a keyboard shortcut to it, or anywhere else where you find it easier for you to access.
