Steps to Boot Directly to Desktop in Windows 8.1

  • Go to desktop mode using the Windows key
  • Next, right click on the taskbar and select Properties

  • In the properties window that opens click on the Navigation tab
  • Under the tab you can see the option to Go to the desktop instead of Start when I sign in, check the box

  • To apply the desktop wallpaper to your start screen simply uncheck the box saying Show my desktop background on Start
  • To apply the changes finally Click Ok.

That’s it. From now onwards whenever you boot or log in your Windows 8.1 PC. The next time you boot your computer and log in, Windows 8.1 will take you straight to desktop mode bypassing the metro screen.
