Steps to Add a Separator in Windows 7 Jump List

If you are a Windows 7 user then you must be well aware of the jump list feature. This feature allows you to access directly or jump right to the documents, images, music or websites. Moreover the jump list is easy to access; simply right click on any program available on the Windows taskbar. This jump list depends entirely on the type of program. Here is the tutorial how you can add separators to Windows 7 jump list.

Separators are available for every program then what is the use of adding separators again. Although you have separators present in the jump list but it would be better if you can categorize it. For instance, in Firefox browser, you might have seen the categorization pinned, frequent and task. The added separators will allow you to categorize it yourself while pinning files, folders or applications to Windows 7 super bar. You can see the screenshot given.

Steps to Add a Separator in the jump list

To add a separator in the jump list, follow the steps given below.

  • To insert a separator in jump list, firstly you need to create a folder and name it as 36 underscores ‘____________________________________’ or simply copy the underscore from here for convenience


  • After creating the folder, right click on it and click to open the properties and select customize tab and then change the icon for the folder.

  • From the icons window, select the blank icon and click OK.
  • This will save all the changes made in the folder upon selecting OK in the dialogue box and it will start appearing in the jump list.

JumpList Separator

  • Next, drag the newly created folder and drop it to the Windows Explorer icon in taskbar to Pin it. You can also drop it to any other position and use it as a separator. Those 36 underscores will act as a separator in the Windows jump list.
