If you are using Windows 7 for a long time then you are quite aware of the feature, but there many users who want to disable or turn off the navigation Pane in Windows Explorer View. You can not only navigate using the navigation pane but also move or copy items directly to a destination in the navigation pane. In Windows 7, the navigation pane is turned on by default. Here are two simple procedures that will help you to turn off navigation pane in windows 7 explorer view.

  • Launch Windows Explorer or Press Windows key + R to open Run dialog box and type explorer.exe and hit enter
  • In the Windows that appears, on the toolbar, click on Organize > Layout option

Or

  • Click to uncheck the Navigation pane if it is already checked earlier.

Turn Navigation Pane On or Off using a .reg File Download

  • To Turn On the Navigation Pane in Windows Explorer using .reg file you need to create a registry file.
  • Open Notepad and copy the following codes

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Modules\GlobalSettings\Sizer]
“PageSpaceControlSizer”=hex:ce,00,00,00,01,00,00,00,00,00,00,00

  • Close the notepad and save the file with a .reg extension

Once you have created the registry file, double click on the newly created .reg file and follow the prompts to install the key into the registry.

  • To Turn Off the Navigation Pane in Windows Explorer, you need to create a .reg file
  • Open Notepad and copy the following codes

Once you have created the registry file, double click on the newly created .reg file and follow the prompts to install the key into the registry.

Upon completing the installation process you can close all Windows Explorer windows and reopen them to apply the changes or restart your system instead. You can delete the newly created .reg file once you have installed them.

Before making any changes in the Windows registry make sure to create a restore point, as any small changes made in the Windows registry can cause severe errors.

If the navigation pane is Turned on , you can drag it’s left border line left and right to increase or decrease the size of the Navigation pane. Upon following any of the two procedures described above you can Turn Off Navigation Pane in Windows Explorer View in your Windows 7 operating system.
