Customize Windows 7 & 8 Desktop with XWidget

Customize Windows 7 8 Desktop with XWidget

XWidget is a light, handy powerful visual App that customizes Windows 8 with very subtle animations. It comes in 7 MB file. One it is installed on your system, it opens three widgets i.e. a photo gallery, a clock and Weather that resides as a tray icon in the system. You can configure its further features or settings from there itself.

XWidgetThis freeware consists total of fourteen default widgets, such as DriverDock, AppsTab, iFolder Dock, System, Search, Recycle, Net, IP Address, RSS, Uptime, Time, Photo Album, and Weather. You also add many other widgets in a few seconds by clicking on More Widgets’ on the context menu of the tray icon.

The XWidget freeware comes with two different modes, i.e. Desktop mode and Dashboard mode.

XWidget Desktop Mode

In this mode you can experience a Mac like dashboard on your Windows system. You can add & install various widgets on your computer system easily and quickly. It allows you to create new widgets similar to that available in Mac OS X version.

You can see the installed and created widgets displayed on the desktop and live behind the Windows. Even when you click on Show Desktop the widgets still remain there. To arrange these widgets simply drag and drop.

XWidget Dashboard Mode

The Dashboard mode shows a semi transparent black background presenting with a feel similar to that of OSX. Unlike the Desktop mode, the widgets in the dashboard mode are displayed on the top. To directly access them, double click the middle button of your mouse. You can add and remove widgets from Dashboard mode using a Plus button in the left bottom of the window.

It also enables you to toggle between the Desktop mode and Dashboard mode easily and quickly, but there are certain few bugs that needs to be fixed. When you switch from one mode to other, there are certain widgets that disappear and to restore them back you need to restart the system which is not always possible.

Overall, XWidget provides a simple user interface that provides easy customization with many productive features. But the installer brings an irritating bloatware of the Babylon toolbar.
