Windows Registry Got Corrupted – How to Back up?

Windows Registry is a database that holds all the configuration settings related to all the programs and apps installed on the operating system. All programs upon getting installed on your system create a Registry entry. The registry also provides a means to access counters for profiling system performance. If by any chance any of the entries in the registry are deleted or corrupted, then it can have a great impact and cause errors and can even make your Windows computer unstable.   • Click on RUN to open the dialog box

  • Click on File tab present on the top left corner of registry settings window
  • From drop down list, click on Export entry, then upon prompting to save the file, save that file to secure place and hit enter. Thus from now onwards upon getting registry errors, you will be able to import the file containing your registry settings.

In order to restore the registry from backup created, redo the steps from the beginning only thing that needs to be changed is from the drop down menu select Import entry, and present the path of your backup.

Alternate way to back-up the windows registry is by restoring the windows top earlier version. It is the best way to retrieve back your registry entries. System restore points are created at certain intervals by your computer; however you can also create one manually. System restore points are useful in retrieving your computer back to a state where it use to function well. System restore points are useful when you are making any changes to your computer that you are not sure enough such as changing settings or installing items that you are not aware of.

To restore your system you must be logged in as administrator or have administrator permission. Go to Start Menu and navigate to Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore.

From here you can choose to either Create a Restore Point or Restore My Computer to an Earlier Time. Choose Restore My Computer to an Earlier Time and click Next.This will prompt you to choose a date and time to restore. You can choose a date where the computer was just fine or if you have set date manually then choose that. This will take your computer the state at that particular date.
