cannot detect wireless router

One of the possible causes for which you can’t connect on the wireless network may be, you have deleted some of the network driver for the wireless connectivity. You should try installing and re-installing the driver, and reboot the system and find out whether you can connect or not.

When you are unable to connect to a router try doing a full power cycle. The power cycle process helps to reboot or reset the modem or router. Follow the steps laid below to power cycle the router.

  1. Switch off and unplug all the devices modem, router and computers, wait for at least 1 to 5 minutes
  2. Plug the power cords back in, but don’t switch them on
  3. First turn on the modem and then wait for a few minutes for it to settle and all the lights to become stable
  4. Next switch on the router (if a separate device) and then wait for a few minutes for it to settle and all the lights to become stable
  5. Now turn on your computer. By doing this you will now be able to access the Internet.

If the problem still persists then log into the router and remove the wireless security. After removing the security see if you can now connect to the wireless. if you can, then go back to the router configuration and put the security back on and see if it now connects by wireless.

Try updating the motherboard driver, all you need is to pop in the motherboard CD and try to update the drivers.

If you are still unable to connect, then set up connection manually by going to the network and internet connectivity option in the control panel and then to “Manage Wireless Networks” or follow the steps below.

  • Access your Network Connections page
  • Right click on your adapter and select properties then Wireless Networks. The next page will have a box with the name of the connection you want. Select it, then hit remove then add, then a new page will appear
  • In the box on top, enter the name of the router, check the connection even if it is not broadcasted in the box. The next two boxes should have data in them. The first will say open, then the second is your encryption (WEP, WPA or whatever). You have to enter your router password in the next 2 boxes and un-check the the key at the bottom. This will help in managing the Wireless Network.

You can also try disabling wireless network adapter first and then enable the wireless network adapter and see whether you can connect to the internet. After trying all the guidelines mentioned above, you will be able to connect on wireless Network and access Internet.
